“…the Amazon economy looks well entrenched. That means more expensive stocks, expensive bonds, relaxed investors, and an even angrier populace.”
-John Authers, Financial Times

It’s good to be the king. Better yet to be Neymar. How does €865,000 a week on a five year contract to occasionally kick a ball around for 90 minutes sound? But wait. The crown sits on the head of Jeff Bezos. Having your company name mentioned 635 times during last quarter’s earnings calls and having an economy named for your firm is no small task.
The current economy does indeed look healthy and on fairly stable footing. Amazon is a significant factor. Record highs in the indices, unemployment at record lows, and corporate profits/margins at the high end of the range. The Amazon effect in full swing. Cost reductions (boosting margins) and low wages (keeping inflation in check) are making sure valuations remain at higher levels. All good for now until it’s not. Higher inflation or political mismanagement could bring on a long anticipated correction. The Fed is committed to the first. Our government is highly capable of the latter.
